A SOLEMNISER is the legal term for a person who is licensed and recognised by the State to conduct non-church weddings. This role is performed by priests in a church wedding, when the bride and groom sign the marriage register. A registry of solemnisers is maintained by the HSE and only people on that registry can officially marry people here. The list also includes humanists, spiritualists, interfaith, pagans and druids.
