Liverpool say no Can do to transfer to Italian giants

- By Simon Jones

LIVERPOOL are hopeful of keeping Emre Can at Anfield despite an approach from Juventus.

Can has one year left on his contract and has yet to agree new terms.

Juventus are interested in signing the 23-year-old Germany international but Liverpool are continuing discussions and would be prepared to let his deal run down if necessary.

They still intend to sign another midfielder this summer, though question marks have been raised about where Can fits into Jurgen Klopp’s plans once Jordan Henderson is also fully fit.

Liverpool will pick up negotiations with Roma this week as they look to reach agreement over a £35million deal for Egypt winger Mo Salah.

The 24-year-old was reported by Italian media to have travelled to England on Saturday to agree personal terms with Liverpool. This was dismissed as ‘fake news’ by the player’s lawyer.

Roma want £38m for the former Chelsea forward who scored 19 goals last season and provided 15 assists. Salah is understood to be keen to make the move to Anfield, though.

In turn, Roma are understood to be weighing up a move for another Liverpool target, Quincy Promes, the Dutch winger who plays for Spartak Moscow.
