WHEN THEY PAID £100 TO TOUR WITH THE LIONS

-

PLAYERS picked for the first post-war tour in 1950 were told to raise £100 each to pay for the trip, equivalent to £3,240 today. In 1971 Gareth Edwards was given 10 shillings a day expenses — that would be £7.40 today! Now, in 2017, a player who is in the squad for the full tour receives a fee of £70,000. If they win the series, they’ll get a £10,000 bonus!
