PENALTIES DOWN AS GATLAND GETS WISH

-

WARREN GATLAND called for an improvement in discipline after the penalty-studded defeat by the Blues last Wednesday and he got his wish. The Lions gave away 13 penalties as they slumped to a 22-16 loss at Eden Park. Yesterday, and doubtless after cross words from Gatland, the improvement was evident, with just seven penalties conceded. Among yesterday’s stars was Ben Te’o, a wildcard selection but playing himself into contention for a Test start. In two matches (the two wins), Teo has had 23 runs for 124m, seven clean breaks and has built up a good understanding with Owen Farrell.
