Hearing hears claims children were coached

-

THURSDAY’S hearing heard evidence of interviews carried out with children Jack and Sarah Corbett by US authorities in the days after their father’s death.

Issues have arisen between both sides about the relevance of the material gained in these interviews.

And Mr Corbett’s sister Tracey Lynch told the hearing that Jack had told her he had lied in the interviews.

A detective also claimed in court that the children may have been ‘coached’ on what to say. Mrs Lynch spoke of a second interview Jack gave via Skype from Limerick.

She said he had asked to ‘fix’ the lies he had told.

The relevance of the interviews will be decided by Judge Lee.

Martens’ legal team is arguing that the jury should be allowed to hear the original statements.

The prosecution does not intend to call the children as witnesses and does not want the original statements shown to the jury.
