At long last, Luas makes its College Green debut
IT’S the moment commuters in the capital have been waiting for – the sight of a tram on its way around College Green for the first time in many decades.
Four years after work began to extend the Luas line, the first trams linking the northside and southside were tested yesterday.
The test journey progressed at a walking pace from St Stephen’s Green to the new O’Connell Street Upper stop.
The €368m project will add 13 new stops, eight of them in the city centre.
The extra 5.9km will run from St Stephen’s Green to Broombridge in Cabra.
More tests will be carried out on the new route today, with trams running all the way to Cabra.
