Dara back on box with a new show
DARA Ó Cinnéide has been missed from our television screens since Seó Spoirt was pulled from the TG4 schedule. But Kerry’s former All-Ireland winning captain returns tomorrow evening (RTÉ 1, 7.30pm) with a new four-part documentary series, GAA Nua, that will look at the developments in science and technology within Gaelic Games.
Éamonn Fitzmaurice, Cian O’Neill and Joe Brolly are among those who will contribute to the show directed by former Galway keeper Pat Comer, who made the acclaimed documentary, A Year Til Sunday, about Galway’s All-Ireland winning season in 1998. NOT sure if his old boss Brian Cody would concur with Jackie Tyrrell’s description of Waterford as a ‘nice’ team, the sort ‘you’d love your sister going out with’. Just think back to the very opening day of the National League and the battle at Nowlan Park where the hits – legitimate and not so legitimate – went in. That day Kilkenny were up in arms over a late Stephen Daniels tackle that saw Pat Lyng (left) stretchered off. THOSE Offaly supporters who do make it to Portlaoise for today’s Leinster SHC semifinal against Galway will be reminded of happier times as Brian Whelahan, their greatest ever hurler, will be honoured by being inducted into the Leinster Hall of Fame. A fine recognition of a glittering career.
