Real Orient-Express sweeter than suites

If you have €6,000 to splash out on one night of luxury, then one of the new ‘grand suites’, right, on the Orient-Express could be the answer. Available from next spring on the legendary train, the three suites come with double beds and private bathrooms with showers. Undoubtedly they will be fabulous but, for me, the appeal of the Orient-Express (which I have been lucky to experience a few times) was always the authenticity of the train – those immaculate original carriages, each with a beautiful seating area that transformed into bunk beds at night. With only a small wash-basin in each compartment, toilet facilities were at the end of each carriage. So much more Agatha Christie…
