Having read Leo Varadkar’s article (MoS, June 11) I’m sure we all agree that social welfare shouldn’t be a way of life.

But how about taking a look at yourself too, Leo – and your colleagues. Your enormous salaries, extremely generous expenses, humongous pensions and subsidised food and drink (the list could go on) also comes from the hard-working taxpayers of Ireland. This sense of entitlemen­t started at the top and has worked its way down to every level of society. So maybe it’s time to start leading by example and not ‘do as I say, not as I do’.
