LEO THE STAR SAYS HELLO TO EUROPE

THERE are concerns that Varadkar’s edgier persona means he will struggle to secure our foreign policy objective of securing informal alliances where Ireland is ‘looked after’ behind closed doors. Mr Varadkar, however, made a fine job of playing the ‘honest broker’ as he enunciated a diplomatic strategy centred on Ireland not wanting the UK to leave the EU mingled with ongoing pledges of faith to a Europe whose ‘economy is growing faster than the American economy’.

The relative youth of Leo Varadkar means that he fits perfectly into the preferred Macron mould while he is also at home with Jean Claude Juncker and Donald Tusk.

VERDICT

Leo is proving to be quite the star on the diplomatic circuit. 7/10
