‘I just can’t pull myself together’

- By Niamh Griffin

A WOMAN who lost her husband to a heart condition said this week’s tragedy has brought it all back for her.

Andrew Doherty died in Waterford in November 2014 following heart complications. He was in the hospital for a stent procedure.

His wife Rita said publicly at the time that she was not happy with his care and felt his condition was not treated properly.

‘It’s brought back so much for me,’ she said this week. ‘My husband was 80, he was a young 80 – we were just back from Budapest. He was due to come out on the Monday, but on the Sunday he complained of bad pains. The staff sent me home and three or four hours later he was dead.

‘What we know is there was no cardiac doctor on duty. It’s a disgrace.

‘I don’t want money or anything from them. I just cannot pull myself together.

‘I hope to God they see sense now. That young man… it’s terrible.’
