Adele’s career in doubt as shows cancelled
ADELE was ‘devastated’ last night after having to cancel her final two homecoming shows in London because of damage to her vocal cords, raising fresh fears over her career.
She told fans she was heartbroken over not being able to perform in front of sell-out crowds at Wembley Stadium last night and tonight. They were the final shows in a 16-month world tour. She had performed at Wembley on Wednesday and Thursday, delighting the audiences and winning rave reviews despite struggling with her throat. On a post shared on social media yesterday, she said: ‘To say I’m heartbroken would be an understatement.’ Referring to the midweek shows, she said: ‘I struggled vocally on both nights. I had to push a lot harder than I normally do.’
She said a doctor had advised her not to perform, adding: ‘I’ve considered doing Saturday night’s show but it’s highly unlikely I’d even make it through the set.’
Previously, there have been concerns over Adele’s fragile voice and she had already warned that this tour could be her last. ‘I don’t know if I will ever tour again,’ she had said.
The 29-year-old, who has sold more than 100million records, was previously forced to remain silent for months after vocal-cord surgery to remove a polyp.
Yesterday, she said fans would be refunded for tickets if the shows could not be rescheduled. While most were supportive, some took to social media to complain, saying they had lost money on hotels and travel fares.
