Teen charged with GAA death

- By Gordon Deegan

A TEENAGER has appeared in court charged with dangerous driving causing the death of GAA coach Eugene McNamara on October 26 last year.

Rene Miko, 19, originally from Slovakia but living in Place de Plouzane, Kilrush, Co. Clare, was also charged with unlawfully taking a car on the same date in Ennis.

Mr McNamara, 42, died as a result of the incident when he was walking along a footpath just after 10pm at the McDonald’s roundabout in Ennis.

At a special sitting of Ennis District Court yesterday, Inspector Tom Kennedy said An Garda Síochána was objecting to bail due to fears that Mr Miko is a flight risk.

However, Judge Gráinne O’Neill remanded Mr Miko in custody with consent to bail. Legal aid was also granted.
