Clare clubs stirred by anger
THERE are yet more grumblings on the ground in terms of the club scene being continually squeezed by the inter-county calendar, this time in Clare. Talk of the last two senior club football champions taking the nuclear option of withdrawing county players from the panel raised its head earlier in the week, even as Clare prepared for a do-or-die qualifier. Kilmurry Ibrickane and St Joseph’s, Miltown were both furious for being fined by the county board after refusing to line out in a league fixture without their county footballers. This comes after previous flashpoints in Galway and Meath in relation to county players and championship fixtures, not to mention Tyrone and Dublin in football. With all this considered, let’s hope the Club Players Association is keeping a detailed case file.
