Sniffer dogs, armed police: SW19 tightens up security

-

THERE were signs of Wimbledon’s tightened security yesterday in the wake of the terrorist atrocities in London and Manchester.

There were the usual thorough bag searches but also officers with sniffer dogs on the grounds while players practised. Spectators can also expect to see armed police and heavy barriers.

World No 3 Stan Wawrinka said: ‘It was really tragic for the country [the recent terror attacks]. That was something really sad. We, as players, are not more important than any other person.’
