Radical change with Leo at the helm? Dream on
Your front-page story about tensions within Fine Gael now that Leo Varadkar is in charge was very revealing (MoS, June 25).
For so long we were sold the idea that he was new and exciting, a radical change from Enda Kenny’s stale, old regime.
But when it came to the crunch, he has shown himself to be every bit as stale as Kenny.
He missed a golden opportunity and made virtually no significant changes to his Cabinet. Alienating younger women within the parliamentary party was particularly foolish.
But is any of this really a surprise? Leo has risen without trace. His most notable achievement was announcing that he’s gay. But it’s hard to think of anything he achieved in his years as a minister.
It’s all spin and no substance. Alan O’Toole, Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.
