Moriz Scheyer was the Jewish arts editor of Vienna’s prestigious Neues Wiener Tagblatt, and a successful essayist and critic. He fled his native Austria when the Germans invaded, only to be arrested in Vichy, France. In powerful, angry prose, Scheyer denounces the brutality, horror and sheer banality of Hitler’s regime.
