Molly was easy-going… but I split with her because our relationship didn’t feel right

MOLLY Martens’s ex-boyfriend broke up with her because the relationship ‘just didn’t feel right.’ Jeremiah Taylor, from Knoxville, Tennessee, also told the Irish Mail on Sunday that his strong religious views were an ‘issue’ for her mother and father. Mr Taylor, 36, went out with Ms Martens for a year and a half from 2004 to 2005, while she worked as a receptionist in a hair salon where he was also employed as a stylist. ‘We just hit it off and eventually got together,’ he told the MoS. ‘She was pretty cool and easygoing. We hung out a lot, mainly with each other’s families. ‘It was nice. I spent a lot of time in their home with her parents. ‘I even went to her brother Bobby’s wedding in Puerto Rico. Her father was working for the FBI at the time. ‘I am very involved in my faith, my mother is a preacher, and I talked about this a lot with Molly. ‘She was starting to share the same views and her parents were not happy and made that clear,’ he added. The couple, who moved into an apartment in nearby Oakridge, haven’t spoken since the split, despite parting on amicable terms. ‘There was no real reason,’ he said. ‘We just went our separate ways. I was travelling and lived in Miami for a long time and I only recently got back. ‘My mom told me about Molly being charged and I was honestly stunned – stunned that she could be caught up in something like this. ‘I couldn’t see something like that involving her.’ Mr Taylor, who was in a reality TV programme called The Dukes Of 2Square – about two men who leave their jobs to become guerilla graffiti artists – said that, apart from the usual ‘girl’s stuff’, Ms Martens had no major issues.

‘She did suffer a lot with health problems to do with her foot,’ he said.

‘She had some condition that required a lot of surgery and it meant she was off work a lot.’

In court this week, a nurse said that Ms Martens had attended her clinic in the days before her husband’s death complaining of foot pain.

She was prescribed a powerful sedative – the same sedative that was found in Mr Corbett’s system.

Meanwhile, Ms Martens’s ex-fiancé Keith Maginn has told the MoS that he has not been called as a witness for the prosecution.

In an exclusive interview with the Irish Daily Mail last year, Mr Maginn spoke for the first time about his ‘explosive’ relationship with the woman charged with Jason Corbett’s murder.

The 37-year-old, who met Ms Martens online in 2007 and lived with her in a condominium owned by her parents, said her father was aware of her problems.

He said Ms Martens was taking 16 prescription drugs a day — with another 10 to be used ‘as needed’.

When she left to travel to Ireland, he said he ‘thought she would be gone for a week’.

He also revealed she would spend days crying in bed as a result of her illness, culminating in a four-day stay at a psychiatric facility.

From Cincinnati in Ohio, Mr Maginn also gave an extraordinary new insight into Ms Martens and her father Thomas.

He said: ‘The psych ward in Atlanta was a last-ditch attempt to try and get her medications right. It was very expensive and her parents paid for it.

‘It has been going on her whole life. Her parents are well aware of the many doctors and the medications she was taking. They knew about it all.’

His account also gave some insight into her state of mind when she first came to Ireland and met Mr Corbett.

‘After the first month or two that I was with her she was never good [mentally] again, that I saw,’ he said. ‘She was struggling a lot until she left for Ireland.’

Despite being contacted by a detective investigating the case, Mr Maginn will not be required to give evidence. ‘I have had no notification,’ he said. ‘I haven’t heard anything since I spoke to the detective.’

The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom will I be afraid? The words inscribed across Jeremiah Taylor’s chest reflect his strong religious views
