Gardaí have list of people tied to Deely mystery as search enters critical week

- By Debbie McCann

DETECTIVES investigating the case of missing Trevor Deely have received the names of more than 10 people allegedly linked to his disappearance since the investigation began 17 years ago, the Irish Mail on Sunday has learned.

Gardaí are now following more than 700 lines of inquiry into the 22-year-old’s disappearance, but they believe the next week will be critical.

Last weekend, gardaí began searching a three-acre scrubland site in Chapelizod in Dublin after receiving information from a credible source. Despite nothing being found since the search began except for a gun, gardaí are hopeful.

‘There will be a lot of machines moving in to the site this week and the coming number of days will be critical,’ said a source.

If detectives do locate the missing man’s remains at the site, it will send the investigation off in a more definite direction – and put one particular person in the position of chief suspect.

The MoS has also learned the gun found this week was uncovered outside of the immediate search area.

It is not yet known if the firearm is linked to Mr Deely’s disappearance.

The gun has been taken to the Garda ballistics unit to be examined.

Mr Deely was last seen walking home from a Christmas party in December 2000.
