IT IS a source of woe for many in summer, but new research suggests hay fever may leave sufferers at risk of depression, too.

Scientists have found hay fever could expose a fifth of its victims to depression, with others experiencing less severe symptoms. The findings suggest hay fever has a far greater impact on people’s lives than usually thought, with researchers saying those who developed the allergy at an early age are particularly prone to depression.
