Fairly gritty

-

WHILE watching RTÉ’s News Now TV channel the other day I was irritated to see a posting under an entertainment heading telling viewers that one of the characters in Fair City was in grave danger of being ‘killed’ in an upcoming episode.

It is very sad that the Fair City series is mirroring some vicious and shocking occurrences up and down the country.

After being a regular follower of the soap for a good few years, I took the decision some months ago to stop looking at it for two reasons: the poor standard of acting by a number of the cast and the increasing violence in the scripts. The latter has led to a situation where the goings-on in Carrigstown are no longer suitable family viewing.

Considering the current climate, with killings happening so regularly, it is very sad to see the road Fair City has taken, and maybe the time has come – pardon the pun – to ‘kill off ’ the series. God be with the days of The Riordans and Glenroe.
