Leo channels Justin (again) as he turns up in full crisis regalia
WELL he certainly dressed the part. An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar was in full crisis mode when he turned up sporting a black Coast Guard jacket on his visit to the sites of the devastating floods in Donegal on Friday.
Just back from his trip to Canada, Mr Varadkar appeared, Trudeauesque, wearing a black Helly Hansen jacket bearing the logo during his visit to the Inishowen Peninsula.
Either by accident or design, the visuals bore a suspicious resemblance to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s look when he visited floodaffected areas in the Canadian province of Quebec in May.
Mr Trudeau wore a similar navy rain jacket by the Canadian company Arc’teryx and the logo of the International Civil Defence and Ministry of Public Security of Quebec on it. Following a number of inquiries as to its origin, neither Mr Varadkar’s spokespeople nor the Coast Guard was able to shed any clear light on it. However, a spokesperson for the Coast Guards said that it’s likely that Mr Varadkar got the jacket during his time as Minister for Transport from 2011-2014. The Government spokesperson wasn’t sure either where Mr Varadkar got his new fashion accessory, but reckons he might have picked it up while liaising with the Coast Guards.
The logo depicts the golden harp of Ireland alongside an anchor.
The colour of the anchor changes from deep blue to purple to green, reflecting the sea and the land of Ireland.
