Poc flair in Kilmessan
THE National Club Poc Fada Championship returns to in Kilmessan, Co Meath, on Saturday, October 28. The competition consists of two-person teams (comprised of current or past players) representing their clubs, negotiating the 5.1 kilometre Poc Fada course from the Hill of Tara to Kilmessan’s hurling pitch, across terrain steeped in history and folklore. In last year’s inaugural competition, Kilcormac/ Killoughey (Offaly) were the over all winners with 48 pocs, Conor Slevin and Cillian Kiely making up the winning pairing for the Offalymen. Second place went to Galway senior champions St Thomas’ with 49 pocs while Newmarket on Fergus (Clare) took third place. The overall long poc was won by Kilkenny man Alan Murphy from Glenmore.
