He’s no intention of retiring, but Pat says... ‘I’ll never do a chat show again’

-

VETERAN broadcaster Pat Kenny is showing no signs of hanging up the mic after over four decades in journalism.

Speaking to The Diary at TV3’s new-season launch a fresh-faced Pat, right, said he loves his job. ‘As long as I enjoy it and as long as people still want me I’ll keep coming to work,’ he said.

Pat is looking forward to reprising his TV3 current affairs show this autumn. He said that viewers can expect a wide variety of topics and issues to be covered. ‘We will cover the stories viewers want,’ he said. ‘We have no idea what’s to come.’

However, the former Late Late Show presenter doesn’t miss his days as a chat show host. ‘I would never do a chat show again,’ the 69-year-old said. ‘I’ve been there, done that!’

But that’s not to say that the personalities of the people who shape the news don’t interest him. ‘I am fascinated with Donald Trump,’ he said. ‘I think he ran for the job just to win but he didn’t really want to do the actual job.’ The broadcaster pledged to be full of energy when he returns to the airwaves. ‘I plan to be relevant and energetic,’ he said. Meanwhile, TV3’s director of programming has spoken of his delight that Lucy Kennedy will present Ireland’s Got Talent. Bill Malone said: ‘Everyone wanted that gig. Lucy is a fantastic presenter. She’s proved herself time and again.’
