Race to reach Russia is going down to the wire ENGLAND SCOTLAND NORTHERN IRELAND REPUBLIC OF IRELAND WALES

AS the qualifying campaign reaches its climax, we look at how the home nations and Ireland can reach the finals. Victory against Slovakia tomorrow would leave them requiring just two points from their remaining two games, against Slovenia and Lithuania, to qualify as Group F winners. Can move to within one point of second place with victory over Malta tomorrow, should England beat Slovakia. Scotland face Slovakia, who are currently second, and Slovenia next month. Can secure runner-up spot in Group C if they avoid defeat against the Czech Republic tomorrow. Eight best second-placed teams move into a two-legged play-off for a spot in Russia. Need home win against Serbia on Tuesday to revive hopes of winning Group D. Going into last night’s match against Austria, Wales’ hopes of another finals appearance after their glorious run at Euro 2016 were looking slim. A 1-0 victory now leaves them right on Ireland’s heels.
