THE MANAGERS
DEREK McGRATH and Micheál Donoghue are two very different personalities. McGrath is a heart-on-sleeve character who has put his soul into Waterford. Donoghue is the quieter one but both are deep thinkers in terms of the game. Like McGrath, Donoghue also had to make a bit of a cull with his Galway panel, letting the likes of Iarla Tannian and David Collins go. Both are very popular figures; both great hurling man, who clearly have the manmanagement skills to foster a tight dressing room. And both are very modern managers in how they set up their teams on any given day. Waterford are open in how they line out, who comes on and what stage of the game. So Donoghue will have put a lot of thought into trying to anticipate their moves.
