Cluxton has some competition

IT WAS interesting to see the market made Stephen Cluxton joint favourite with Mayo’s Andy Moran for Footballer of the Year this week. Not that it is undeserved — the Dublin captain has been flawless — but those odds ignore the reality that he is

facing a tight battle with Mayo’s David Clarke for this year’s All-Star team. Cluxton’s (left) kicking game has been at a different level, but then so has Clarke’s shotstopping which has kept Mayo alive more than once this summer. How one can be deemed a 3/1 shot for player of the year and the other 100/1 is hard to fathom.
