McIlroy struggles again in Boston

GOLF:

A three-overpar round of 74 left Rory McIlroy the wrong side of the cut line when he finished his second round of the Dell Technologies Championship, the second of the four FedEx Cup play-off events. An opening bogey was an ominous sign and though McIlroy got two birdies to get him level for the tournament, it was only a temporary improvement and he finished four over par. He had the comfort of knowing he will make the top 70 in the FedEx standings and qualify for the BMW Championship next week.

Lee Slattery, whose wife is eight days overdue with the couple’s second child, will take a two-shot lead into the final day of the D+D Real Czech Masters. The Englishman carded a third round of 67 at Albatross Golf Resort to finish 12 under, with South African Haydn Porteous his closest rival after his own 67. Darren Clarke and Gary Hurley missed the cut.
