The school book rip-off has just cleaned me out

-

I looked through my son’s fifthyear booklist on Monday last and thought, ‘these titles sound familiar’.

Up to the attic I went to dig through his older sibling’s books. I found some of the titles, but the editions were previous ones. So out I went and spent over €300 on a handful of books. One A5 Irish book with about 100 pages was €38! Two Spanish books cost me more than €90.

The only item that was usable from the boxes of books in the attic was a well-worn copy of Macbeth. I’m getting nervous now that Shakespeare will bring out a new edition! Ger Corrigan, Castletroy, Co. Limerick.
