Our priorities are horribly wrong
I was so incensed to read of the plight of a 10-year-old child who suffers from cerebral palsy and whose family are currently homeless and forced to live in a B&B which has no access for his walker by way of a ramp (MoS, August 27).
He has no space to use his walker in his room or use his wheelchair.
He has had to live in this accommodation for the past 20 months. This child has been hospitalised in the past after falling and cutting his head whilst trying to navigate the steps to enter the accommodation.
On reading further into the paper, I came across an article on the rent for the ambassadorial residence in Tokyo, which has risen from €46,000 per month to just over €47,000. Ambassador Anne Barrington thought this ‘reasonable’.
Why wouldn’t she? Sure it’s only taxpayers’ money, after all. Can someone explain to me how this can be justified?
