So, who gets the coveted Six One slot?

-

speculation about who will replace Bryan Dobson as presenter on the six one news continues to grow.

While some insiders believe that sharon ní Bheoláin, 46, could move to the nine o’clock news – thereby freeing up the six one news slot for two presenters – there are also rumours that Montrose bosses may instead decide to hand it to one person. currently, the front runners for the new anchor position are Keelin shanley and David Mccullagh.

either way, a major revamp of the six one news is planned. RtÉ’s new head of news Jon Williams is understood to be keen to shake up the show’s current format, which hasn’t changed for some years.

‘i think everyone agrees the programme needs a revamp,’ a senior news producer told the irish Mail on sunday.

‘We need our own Kay Burley now,’ the producer added.

shanley is a former prime time anchor and Mccullagh was RtÉ news’s political correspondent before joining Miriam o’callaghan, pictured right, on prime time in 2013.
