Watchdog’s ‘snub’
IRELAND’S consumer watchdog has refused to join a Government unit overseeing the ending of flat rate waste collection, due to concerns about the group’s effectiveness.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) told the Department of the Environment that a more robust regulatory regime may be needed.
The CCPC said it can’t take part in the price monitoring group because it would compromise its independence as an enforcement body.
