Fear not, an easier life is on the cards!

A degree of paranoia has emerged over the past couple of weeks regarding the Public Services Card.

I’m not sure what has prompted this. The fact is, almost two million of the cards are already in circulatio­n and I have yet to see a story about identity theft or fraud involving one of them.

Certainly, the Government could look at ways of making it more secure and perhaps not store the date of birth in the magnetic strip (MoS, September 3).

But dealing with the State can be a headache involving a mass of form-filling. If having a PSC could reduce some of this paperwork and make the system run more smoothly, then I’m all in favour of it.
