Stop the moralising, they just did what all teams would do

-

FOR all of Dublin’s football ability, they are well able to get down and dirty.

There has been a lot of white noise about how the Dublin forwards literally got to grips with the Mayo defenders after Dean Rock converted that free, but if I was in their position I would have done exactly the same thing.

On the other side, we had Lee Keegan throwing his GPS unit at Rock in the run-up to that free which was a nakedly cynical act, but people have to get off the moral high ground here.

These two teams provided us with an epic final precisely because of their will to win.

We should not be shocked when that finds expression in acts of cynicism when a game is on the line. Should players face sanctions for their behaviour? Absolutely.

But let’s stop this argument as to which team was more cynical than the other.

The answer to that is every top team out there will do what they have to win. That’s the bottom line and it is one we should make peace with.
