History trip could benefit Ryanair
Ryanair could learn a lot from the history books. A much larger airline than it came to a bad end many years ago in America.
Eastern Airlines, which traced its lineage back to the early days of flying, employed 19,000 people across America. However, its management adopted a harsh regime for its employees, post-deregulation of the industry. Large bonuses were awarded to management and there was little input from the workforce.
In fairness to Ryanair, it made air travel affordable to the vast majority of the travelling public, who could never have travelled under the old regime of Aer Lingus.
Could it go down the path of Eastern Airlines, which shut down with the loss of 19,000 jobs?
