Travel TREATS

A CAPITAL TIME:

I came across an old picture at home the other day of one of the best holidays I can remember. We brought the girls to Dublin. It may not sound like the most exciting destination of all time but it still wins the vote when we try to remember the best break with young ones in tow. From Croke Park to the beach at Killiney, to the pictures on O’Connell Street, we had a ball. Two of the older children were hosting a Scottish friend this week and relived some of the excitement with a spin on the Viking Splash Tour. Fifteen years later, they reported, it hasn’t lost any of its craic. Go staycation! NOW, THAT’S A MALTEASER! It’s been quite a few years since I was in Malta, but the hazy memory is a good one! A return visit came to mind the other day as the rain lashed the window. In just three-and-a-half hours you can be putting up your feet… poolside! For good value, Budget Travel is offering seven nights at the 3-star Mavina Hotel, Bugibba (room only) for €249pp, departing Dublin on November 9. maltaireland.com

THAMES FOR

A CRUISE: A cruise on the Thames sounds like a good must-see: The great Lionel Messi break. It’s Le Boat’s No.1 destination for families and groups with children. A five-night stay on Countess, which sleeps up to six people, costs from £54 pp /£321 per boat (down from £642, saving 50%) departing October14. leboat.co.uk SEE MESSI PLAY:

Sports travel has never been more popular. So if you’re of that mind, then get a bit of value. Getting to see the great Lionel Messi play for Barcelona in the Nou Camp is on quite a few bucket lists. To meet that need, Celtic Horizon Tours will fly you to Barcelona from €269, to include two nights hotel B&B, a match ticket, a glass of wine and a tapa.
