Moralistic Ross is just another crony politician

Minister Shane Ross has made a career out of challenging the old tradition of stroke politics in Ireland. How ironic, then, that Ross’s local Garda station in Stepaside is the only one of 139 closed stations which will now be reopened after a review.

Ross made the reopening of his local cop shop a central part of his election agenda.

When it comes to parish pump politics, his stroke is right up there with the worst examples of the political culture he professes to detest.

It’s a bit rich now for Minister Ross to posture as the face of probity and reform. Perhaps the time has come for the minister to, erm, step aside! John O’Sullivan, Carrigaline, Co. Cork.
