Duggan rescues point for Limerick

ST PAT’S ATH 2 LIMERICK 2

- By Paul Butler

A DRAMATIC stoppage-time equaliser from Shane Duggan salvaged a point for Limerick at the death in Inchicore.

Despite four minutes having been held up on the board, the game was in the fifth minute of added time at Richmond Park when sub Barry Cotter and Rodrigo Tosi set up skipper Duggan to rifle home from 14 yards to deprive Saints of a big win.

Limerick, who remain two points ahead of St Pat’s, will be the happier with the draw, though both sides remain in relegation trouble.

Limerick began the better with St Pat’s having Polish keeper Lukasz Skowron to thank for a double save six minutes in.

In a frantic end to the first half, the sides swapped goals with Limerick taking the lead on 44 minutes.

Ogbene got possession to thump a shot from distance that came down off the underside of Skowron’s crossbar and spun out with assistant referee Wayne McDonnell flagging for the goal before Tosi bundled the rebound home.

But the Saints levelled matters a minute into added time.

Fagan and Conan Byrne were involved with the latter’s cross tapped home from close range by O’Conor.

St Pat’s steadily got on top into the second half with Brennan and Garvan having efforts off target before they took the lead on 71 minutes.

Kelly found Byrne who cleverly cut by a defender to drill an angled shot past Clarke with Cotter merely helping the ball over the line.
