Mackin victim Siobhán living with brain injury

-

SIOBHÁN PHILLIPS, who was shot and seriously wounded by her crazed boyfriend before he turned the gun on hero Garda Tony Golden, is living independently, but suffering from a permanent brain injury.

Speaking to the Irish Mail on Sunday, her father Seán said: ‘She doesn’t fully understand what happened to her. If we get a bit deeper into it, Siobhán switches off.

‘Because of her brain injury, we find it works best to keep things as normal as possible.’

Mr Phillips appealed this week for a public inquiry into events before the shooting.

Garda Golden was shot dead and Ms Phillips critically wounded by her partner, Adrian Crevan Mackin, who then killed himself at their home in Omeath, Co. Louth in October 2015.

Mr Phillips said Garda Golden and his daughter would not have been shot if the killer had been arrested the previous day for beating Siobhán.
