Thousands pay tribute to hurricane victim

ThouSAndS of mourners have paid tribute to Fintan Goss, a father of two who was killed by a falling tree during hurricane ophelia last Monday.

‘When you looked from the graveyard down the road, all you could see was a mass of people going back hundreds of yards,’ said Fr Brian White.

The ceremony was held yesterday morning at St Mary’s Church in Ravensdale, Co. Louth.

Fr White had officiated at the wedding of Fintan to his wife Pamela last year in the same church and had also christened both of their children.

he said: ‘[Fintan] achieved everything he’d wanted in his short 33 years. he was a true gentleman.’

Mr Goss died on Monday when a tree hit his car as he was on his way home from work in dublin.

Another victim of the storm, Michael Pyke of Ardfinnan, Co. Tipperary, was buried on Thursday.

Clare o’neill, of Aglish, Co. Waterford, who was killed when a tree fell on her car, will be reposing at Egan’s Funeral home, Greencloyn­e, Youghal, Co. Cork today. A private service takes place tomorrow at the Island Crematoriu­m, Ringaskidd­y.
