New deal for Wilshere

- By Rob Draper

ARSENAL are expecting to sit down with Jack Wilshere’s representatives in the next few weeks in an attempt to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the season.

With Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil also out of contract next summer, Arsenal know that losing Wilshere, who has been at the club since the age of nine, would be perceived as another example of bad planning, even though the player has been beset by injuries for three years.

If his recent form continues, Wilshere is likely to be back in Gareth Southgate’s England squad next month and is pushing to make the Arsenal first team today against Everton.

The 25-year-old has been pursued by Everton and Roma in the past but, if he stays fit, Chelsea and Manchester City may be interested in player who would boost their quota of home-grown players.

Wilshere (right) has started three games in the last month and manager Arsene Wenger says he is close to full fitness.
