It’s a case of Porsche and burn for Duffy

- By Jack Hurfurt

FORMER Boyzone star Keith Duffy splashed out on a Porsche and a house when he got a surprise cheque from the taxman in the mid-1990s.

He told the Mail: ‘I remember being quite young – about 23 – and a lady from PricewaterhouseCoopers knocked on the door of my mother’s house. She handed me a cheque for the biggest amount of money I had ever seen in my life.’ The refund came after he’d spent so much of the year with Boyzone out of the country meaning he qualified for the huge refund. As well as the Porsche, the singer once spent £200,000 (€225,000) on a black BMW M5 which he said was ‘a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a car and I would never do it again’. Keith ended up crashing the high-end car. He said: ‘I was not experienced enough to drive that car. It had 600 horsepower. Luckily, I did not damage myself or anybody else. I just killed the car.’ The 43-year-old is also a big fan of golf. Just before the recession, the singer invested in a shopping mall in England which fell apart in the aftermath of the 2008 crash. Though he wouldn’t say how much he lost, Keith said: ‘I got burnt. Thankfully I was not ruined.’

He has spent the last two years touring with Westlife’s Brian McFadden as Boyzlife, with the pair gearing up for a huge Christmas tour.
