SHOCK AND HORROR FOR LEO AS APPLE CHIEF REFUSES TO COMMIT

-

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar’s meeting with apple ceo Tim cook was condemned as a diplomatic disaster by his own ministers and opposition TDs last night.

Mr Varadkar looked startled as he broke the bad news to reporters on Friday, following his meeting with apple ceo Tim cook.

‘We didn’t get a start date or a definite commitment or anything like that. But, certainly, we really impressed on them very strongly how much the Government is behind the project; how we will do anything within our power to facilitate it, and how the people of Galway – and athenry, in particular – really want it to happen,’ he said.

Usually such meetings abroad are arranged for the Taoiseach, so he can emerge with positive announcements.

Mr Varadkar’s obvious discomfort in front of reporters came as a shock to his cabinet colleagues as the pictures were beamed back from northern california.

‘i think somebody f ***** up here,’ said a senior Government colleague. ‘how did anyone let the Taoiseach go into a meeting with the ceo of apple and not make sure we were going to get the right answer in advance of the meeting?’

another source blamed ‘civil servants or the iDa’ for the communication breakdown.
