Dyche ignores speculation to do job in hand

- By Dan Ludlam

SEAN DYCHE insists speculation linking him with the vacant Everton job ‘is out of his hands’ after watching his Burnley side earn another impressive away win.

A terrific angled header from substitute Sam Vokes nine minutes from time moved the Clarets up to sixth in the Premier League.

And although Dyche is aware that Burnley’s excellent start to the season will inevitably create rumours, the 46year-old insists he isn’t paying attention to suggestions he is ready to take over at Goodison.

‘These stories that come round, they’re out of my hands,’ said Dyche.

‘I just keep getting on with my business as I have been doing for five years during numerous spells when I’ve been linked with different situations.

‘I just continue to see it clearly and that’s to continue to work hard at what I do.’

While Dyche was quick to brush off the speculation, his inspired double substitution at St Mary’s will likely lead to an increase in demand.

With the Clarets seemingly struggling to gain a foothold, Dyche introduced Ashley Barnes and Vokes to the fray, with the latter pouncing to secure a dramatic late victory.

‘My story is the Burnley story,’ Dyche added. ‘I’m really pleased there’s a lot of work that goes in on the training pitch from my staff and from the players.

‘I’d sensed by that point that the game had levelled out a bit.

‘My staff were terrific and they said “look, I think it’s right we change to two up front” and I thought it worked a treat.’

Vokes’s clinical header was his first goal since the openingday victory at Chelsea and underlined the Clarets’ renewed strength in depth.

The Welshman angled a fantastic header beyond the despairing dive of Fraser Forster to send the supporters behind the goal into raptures.

‘It’s a fantastic goal,’ Dyche admitted. ‘It’s absolutely top drawer to be able to head a ball into the goal against that keeper from 12 yards. It’s a fantastic header.

‘The way they changed the feel of the game, both centre forwards. I thought they were terrific.’
