Aguero one of the greats of the Premier League era

-

SIX months ago, Sergio Aguero looked like he might be on his way out of Manchester City. Now he has broken the club’s goalscoring record.

I was fortunate enough to be at the Etihad when he scored arguably his greatest goal, to win the Premier League title against QPR, and I’m looking forward to seeing him against Arsenal today, as I always do.

He is one of those players. To score 178 goals in the time he has is an incredible achievement and he is without doubt one of the great strikers of the Premier League era.

His attitude since he came to the club has been absolutely first class. His goalscoring ability is unquestionable but there have been times when he has clearly had to improve his work-rate under Pep Guardiola, but rather than sulk he just got on with it and the improvement is clear for all to see.

His goal against Napoli the other night was typical Aguero, given the situation and the quality of the opposition.

Manchester City are flying at the moment and they are just a great team to watch.

I know Mauricio Pochettino said this week that Tottenham have to be considered among the European elite after their win over Real Madrid, but City are already up there.

They are consistently playing the best football in Europe this season. Despite Barcelona being top of La Liga, things are not quite right. Things are clearly not right at Real Madrid and there are problems at Bayern Munich too.

The only team in Europe who can match City at the moment are Paris Saint-Germain. The purists won’t like the fact two of the richest clubs are on course for the Champions League final, but what a game it would be.
