Slum properties have no place in the 21st century
THE properties featured on RTÉ Investigates programme again raise questions of vulture landlords who are operating in this country and are making a fortune from vulnerable tenants.
A lot of the properties are fire hazards and are not compliant with regulations, with 16 bunkbeds squeezed into one room, fire exits blocked and two toilets for 24 people to share.
Electrical wires are dangerously exposed.
These can only be described as hovels and should be weeded out as this behaviour is disgraceful, distressing and totally unacceptable for tenants and landlords in this 21st century.
They should not be allowed to operate and are evidence of outdated and ineffective housing standards.
They should be closed down forthwith if not compliant with safety standards and regulated rent. Noel Harrington, Kinsale, Co Cork.
