Catastrophe that left a nation in mourning
LAMIA Flight 2933 was a charter flight from Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Bolivia to Medellin in Colombia on November 28 last year.
There were 77 people on board including a 68-strong party from the Chapecoense football team – including players, board members, coaching staff, office personnel and journalists. The pilot reported an electrical fault soon after starting his descent into Medellin and then reported a fuel emergency. The plane vanished from air traffic control radars at 9.55pm local time. Four minutes later the plane hit a mountain ridge. Three players, defenders Alan Ruschel (above) and Helio Neto (below, left) and goalkeeper Jakson Follmann (below, right), were among the six survivors.
