China and North Korea hack their way around the world, one result of their cyberspace war is the end of electronic voting. Need I remind you of our costly e-voting debacle 13 years ago. The then minister Martin Cullen spent €54million buying evoting machines and paraded around championin­g them – but it was a disaster, and they were later scrapped! And of course, the taxpayer took the hit. Last year’s US presidenti­al election saw at least 21 states have their electronic voting compromise­d. It seems pencil-and-paper voting is here to stay – now, more than ever.
