WHAT’S ON
SUNDAY afternoon rock gigs were a regular feature on Dublin’s Baggot Street in the 1970s and 1980s, and now Toners Pub has resurrected the idea. The feisty punk band The Lee Harveys rock the upstairs bar from 4pm-7pm.
Lankum used to be Lynched (but negative connotations persuaded them to change their name) and the Irish folksters are touring in support of their fine album Between The Earth And Sky. Tonight, they are in The Spirit Store in Dundalk. A perhaps more finessed phylum of folk can be observed in the Hawk’s Well in Sligo tonight when Martin O’Connor, Cathal Hayden and
Séamie O’Dowd take to the stage at 8 o’clock. There is a chance to see a multi-million selling rapper in intimate surroundings on Monday and Tuesday night when
Nelly plays Dublin’s Vicar Street.
In Tua Nua are back on the road to the Theatre Royal in Waterford on Tuesday evening. The comeback kid of TV talent shows, James Arthur still has the pulling power to play Dublin’s 3Arena on Tuesday. Phil Coulter is around the country for a scattering of dates. You can catch him in the Lime Tree in Limerick on Wednesday; the NCH Dublin on Thursday and the Termon Complex, Donegal on Friday. Russian art-rockers Pussy Riot (pictured) who raised the hackles of Vladimir Putin do their thing in the Button Factory in Dublin on Thursday night. Another of this column’s favourites, Bitch Falcon hit the Róisín Dubh in Galway on Thursday and Whelan’s of Dublin on Saturday. It’s Queens of the
Stone Age in the 3Arena on Friday while Queen and Adam Lambert play Saturday. Let’s hope they don’t get the flight cases mixed up as they cross over.
