KEEP ON TRUCKIN’... WITH TESLA
Tech legend Elon Musk – he of Paypal, Tesla and SpaceX– pulled off another showstopper last week unveiling Tesla’s first truck. Called the Tesla Semi, it will be cheaper per mile to run than a diesel truck and will have a range of 500miles on a single charge. Musk said the truck will be able to prevent jack-knifing thanks to sensors that can detect and manage instability. Safety will also be enhanced by cameras that detect objects, minimise blind-spots and alert the driver to hazards and obstacles. The truck will also be equipped with Tesla’s Enhanced Autopilot that automatically keeps the vehicle in the right lane. And ever the showman, in a Steve Jobs-style ‘one more thing’ announcement Musk wowed the audience with something special to wrap up the event. The truck’s trailer opened to reveal a sleek red sport scar, a new Tesla Roadster. It will initially cost $250,000, have a range of over 600 miles and will be the fastest production car on the planet, with a top speed of 250mph.
